LeadAR
Arkansas Agricultural & Rural Leadership Program

Leadership...to boldly try...to strive for daring height.

Our mission is: To serve the Alumni and assure the continuation of the LeadAR Program.

LeadAR is a rural and agricultural leadership development program initially funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Today it is sponsored by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service with additional support from alumni and corporate partners. LeadAR was introduced in Arkansas in 1984. The program is designed to give outstanding adults within the state the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and outlook, develop leadership skill, and gain confidence in their own abilities.

The LeadAR program encompasses two years of intensive study and travel. Its overall goal is to increase the participants’ knowledge and understanding of economic and social changes affecting Arkansas. It provides an opportunity to master the decision-making process and encourages the practical application of leadership skills. The program develops expertise and promotes understanding in addressing critical problems facing Arkansas.

Training emphasizes the use of basic skills in communication, interpersonal relations, economics, formation of policy, role of government, and social and cultural understanding. Men and women in this program explore the legislative process; the long-range effects of our government’s agriculture, trade, and economic policies; and current issues facing our state such as education, environment, economic development, and the criminal justice system.

LeadAR is aimed at developing well-rounded people, skilled in communications; educated in local, national, and world affairs; familiar with the changing needs of our society; and prepared to meet the challenges that welcome the 21st Century.

If you- or someone you know- wants to be a better leader in Arkansas, contact your local county Extension office or the LeadAR Program office, (501-671-2076) or go to the LeadAR website.
